SMCLC supports effort of city to control airport usage

The intensified use of the Santa Monica airport, with more powerful aircraft and more frequent flights, has contributed to the deterioration of the quality of life in the surrounding neighborhoods. SMCLC supports those who play an active role in keeping Santa Monica livable. As such, we have sent the letter printed below to the Santa Monica City Council in support of the Friends of Sunset Park neighborhood group.

Dear City Council,

RE: City Council meeting Oct 9, 2007 / Agenda Item 8-A

The Santa Monica Coalition for a Livable City (SMCLC) supports enactment of an ordinance that will preclude Category C and D aircraft from using the Santa Monica airport based on evidence from the FAA and the community which was submitted at the prior council hearing on this issue. We believe a compelling case has been made for such action to be taken now in order to protect surrounding residents and the neighborhood from an aviation disaster.

SMCLC also supports the related efforts by the city to secure federal legislation that is consistent with such an ordinance.

Sincerely, SMCLC
